Why Fake Paradise?

The destinations just happen to be songs.

I’ve spent more than two decades making things for other people—brands, campaigns, websites, experiences and stories. Somewhere along the way, I started writing songs again.

Then I had a different problem: where do the songs live?

A playlist felt boring. A traditional songwriter website felt even worse.

Fake Paradise started with memories of old California travel—Catalina, faded resort brochures, family trips, places that somehow become more beautiful the farther away you get from them. Then it collided with everything else rattling around in my head: AI, virtual reality, nostalgia, grief, memory, low wages, the endless pursuit of monetary gain, and the increasingly strange idea that whatever we have—or whoever we are—is never quite enough.

And somewhere in there was the increasingly strange question of what “real” is going to mean in the future.

So I built a travel agency.

Meet Your Travel Agent

Lynn Chuba

Songwriter, Creative Director & Questionably Licensed Reality Broker

For more than two decades, Lynn Chuba has made a living turning ideas into things people can see, understand, remember and occasionally spend money on.

She’s been an art director, designer, creative director, UX designer, marketer, fashion person, Google person, nonprofit person and professional maker-of-things-that-did-not-exist-five-minutes-ago.

Eventually, making things for this reality stopped being enough. So she started writing songs again. Then she built somewhere fun for them to live.

Fake Paradise™: part songwriting portfolio, part travel agency, part interactive story and part increasingly questionable attempt to determine whether reality was all that great to begin with.

Lynn writes country and Americana songs about memories, love, grief, bad decisions, good dogs, long roads and the people and places we carry with us. She is an ASCAP songwriter and lifelong believer that the best creative work should make you feel something—even if occasionally that something is: “Wait. What the fuck is happening?”

Travel Info

Questions regarding your government-subsidized escape from your currently assigned reality? Please consult the information below before contacting Sagittarius Engineering.

What is Fake Paradise™?

A travel agency for places you cannot technically visit. Each destination is a song—part memory, part story, part alternate life. Choose a getaway and begin the experience.

Can I physically travel to my destination?

Physical and dimensional travel are currently restricted to Premium Reality citizens. Don't worry. We're sure they're having a wonderful time.

What does my citizen plan cover?

Qualifying citizens receive access to selected simulated destinations, basic emotional baggage handling and one currently assigned reality. Upgrades remain wildly unaffordable.

Will I remember my trip?

Memory retention varies by destination. Fake Paradise™ cannot guarantee which memories will follow you home or why they become significantly more vivid at 2:14 AM.

Can I extend my stay?

Usually. Extended stays may increase nostalgia, questionable decision-making and reluctance to return to your assigned reality. Destination-specific restrictions apply.

What happens to my emotional baggage?

It travels free on most routes. Some destinations require HANDLE WITH CARE service. Fake Paradise™ accepts no responsibility for baggage you thought you had already dealt with.

Can I visit someone who is no longer in my assigned reality?

Some Memory Restoration and Companion packages allow travelers to spend a little more time with the people, places and companions they carry with them. Please travel gently.

Why was my dimensional-travel request denied?

Your current Reality Class may not include physical dimensional transport. Simulated travel remains available under participating citizen plans. Please direct complaints to the Department of Economic Inevitability.

Is Fake Paradise safe?

Define “safe.” All experiences meet current Department of Recreational Reality simulation standards. Side effects may include emotional attachment, temporal confusion, memory bleed, mild existential distress and muscle atrophy associated with prolonged periods of simulated sunbathing. Travelers are encouraged to return to their assigned physical reality periodically for hydration, movement and basic musculoskeletal maintenance. Fake Paradise™ is not responsible for injuries sustained while attempting to stand up too quickly after an extended vacation.

Wait. Is Fake Paradise™ a real company?

No. Please do not attempt to book a vacation with us. Fake Paradise™ is a fictional creative project and songwriting portfolio created by Lynn Chuba. No actual vacations, dimensional travel, memory restoration, alternate realities or government-subsidized escapes are available for purchase. The songs, however, are real. Those you can actually take with you.

Still confused? Excellent. You're ready to travel.
